Just an update

Today is Wednesday, July 5th. We started our jouney 2 weeks ago today. The people here are very nice and friendly. Jack is settling in with his teaching and getting to know the kids. He has dorm duty every Thursday. This weekend the school is going to New York on buses (coaches with air conditioning). The plan is for everyone to see The Lion King. We will pass on that and do the tourist thing. Jack also has duty that weekend which will be easy as the kids will all be with us in New York.

As you know I got sick and am just now getting where I dont have to sleep all the time. I'm not a happy camper that I've missed over a week of adventures! I managed to make a small day trip with my friend Holly. We went to K-mart to get some things and the darn electricity was out so we decided to take a drive. Of course, I forgot my camera! grrr We saw the most beautiful homes tucked away in the trees. I thought I saw a fox in the road and Holly said it was a baby deer. (OH DEAR!) But I've never seen a fawn with a tail THAT long!!

We just kept driving and I think we went in a circle because we ended up back in town. And YES this down has a MAIN street! K-Mart was still closed so we went to Starbucks for a nice change of pace. In fact there was a nail place next door who was even less expensive than the other place.

Yesterday it rained so no 4th of July extravaganza's. But they had BBQ'd chicken, sausage, hot dogs, and hamburgers as well as non beef burgers. I've never seen a place that knows how to recycle their food like this place. If there is left over bacon from breakfast, we get it crumbled up for our salads at lunch. Same thing with bananas, it ends up being in a cream pie! Chicken and rice ends up in the soup next day! LOL The treat everyone loves is the frozen yogurt machine that only opens at lunch. Oh yeah and the M&M cookies that are so moist from the humidity they fall apart in your hands. But we found out if you take them to your room and put them in the fridge, they get REALLY hard!

Jack and I both have our computers here which makes it great because I can sit here in my jammies typing without going down to the COLD computer room where the teachers go. I think that room added to my getting a cold.

Yesterday the school showed the soccer game at 3:00 in the auditorium. From what Jack says, the US is the only country who is not as keen on soccer s the rest of the world is. I have to say I got tired just watching them run back and forth. It went into 2 - 15 minute overtimes. And in the last 1 1/2 minutes Italy kicked 2 goals! The kids went crazy. Of course it was much more fun because the kids are from Italy!! There is another game today at 3:00, so you know where we will be.

As soon as I start doing more things, I'll keep you updated.

Hugs to you all,

Nancy and Jack
